SAINTS OF AN UNNAMED COUNTRY
Saints of an Unnamed Country is a silly theater company that performs original plays mostly written by Cameron Stuart. Subjects? We got subjects! How do you ethically choose between speaking and writing? What's the deal with the power dynamic inherent in difference as created by predicate logic, and is there any escape? Another topic: the synesthesitic quality of graphemes. Also, clowns.
The company began in 2011 in Atlanta, GA. Cameron Stuart invited Shitty Bedford to design masks for two new plays he wrote. The duo produced a double bill of THE STORM and POLICE IN THE WILDERNESS for Art on the Beltline in Atlanta. After Cameron moved to New York City in 2012, the company was formally named. Saints of an Unnamed Country is a bit of fluffy romantic claptrap that was written down in a journal one intoxicated evening. Cameron has been producing plays in NYC since 2012 with the help of local artists, performers, and friends. Bedford contributes either through the US mail system or in person when time and space permit.
Since then, Saints has performed mostly in DIY venues in Bushwick, Brooklyn. We are grateful to those that have hosted us: Secret Project Robot, Bohemian Grove, The Glove, Tarot Society, Living Gallery, Silent Barn, and Vital Joint. Saints has also performed in Detroit, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and Cold Spring, NY. Special thanks to 368 Ponce in Atlanta, GA, former home of Cornbread Steve.
